Extra Credit Event 2: The event I attended was a symposium presented by Linda Weintraub. In this symposium others artist were brought in and they were able  to discuss their art. One of the artist was gebhard who talked about the parallel image eco-materialism. I admit that the thing that  caught my attention very fast were the “praying robots” In brief, the praying robots is pretty much a satire of humanity rely on technology to fulfill our social problems. The person solicates a prayer and then the robot is able to read the   mind of the person and begin to do the prayer. This definitely connects to my final paper because  I want to use technology, specially robots and researchh how they can help the human race deal with problems, mentallly and physically.

Extra Credit Event 1: At first when I attended this event I was somewhat with a disinterested. However, after the first speaker of disembodied art I was soon sucked into the event. Especially when the speaker spoke about how he himself feels disembodied . Not knowing where he is located. He then goes ahead and talks about cultural condition and not conveying emotion. This specific point reminded me of my field work in Mexico. During my field work I was to show no emotion to the stories I was being told by the community because my emotions would get in the way of my work. One of the work of art that was shown  was of picasso, specially the one that showed a mother losing her child. Here the artist distorts the image in order to show sorrows. This picture in particular make me think that for my final essay I want to talk about how people  deal with unfortunate events and how they overcome certain events in their lives. Perhaps go back to robotics and art, and research if their ha

Week 8: Nanotechnology +Art To be honest I found this week’s lecture very hard to follow. I believe that this is because I have been used to stuff that are non-related to science. Such as learning about different cultures, and readings books.  To begin, Nanotechnology is a branch of technology that deals with dimensions and tolerances of less than 100 nanometers especially the manipulation of individuals atoms and molecules( www.nanotech.org ). While watching the Ted Talk about “DNA Folding, in detail” I learned that DNA can be manipulated into any shape. I was shocked by this because I did not expect that DNA can be shaped into a “happy  face”. In the past I have learned that DNA can be altered or mutated. However, I never imagined that it can be folded into an everyday shape.  It took me some time to see how DNA can be seen as Art. However, after thinking about it in more depth I realize that because DNA can be folded. It can become an Origami This topic r

Event 3: Leonardo Art Scicne Evening Rendezvous (Laser) David Artel + Symrin Chawla When I attended this event I was somewhat surprise by the amount of young individuals that attended the event. I was shocked because the last event I attended, most of the individuals were of an older age. The topic that caught my attention was "Art Installation" one of the speakers purpose was how can the ceiling change in shape, how buildings can be brought to life. This is  very interesting because in Anthropology we study how materials can  tell us the life if humans in the past. We somewhat bring the past to life with the study and reassembly of pottery, mines, buildings and sites. The speaker stated that she uses sensory technology in order to sense the eye son individuals. Like the speaker anthropologists use technology. However, we use it to reconstruct the faces and bodies of the bones that we find. Overall I had a very good experience in at this event. It made think that for my fi

Space +Art      By far this week' discussion was my favorite one. As a child I was always fascinated by space and always wondered where everything came from. How the universe could influence humanity, and how everything came to be. I was surprise to find out by how NASA came to be established.  According to professor Vesna, NASA was established to compete with the Soviet Union and their Sputnik Movement(Space and Art Lecture Part 2). Soviet Union Sputnik NASA Flopnik' failure.     Although, I find that the background history of how NASA to be interesting, something that caught my attention even more was the  statement of Annick Buread,  an art educator, curator and publisher. Who was involved in "The Leonardo Space Art Project Working group". According to Bureaud "It is artists and their work that reveal to me the essence of peace for human beings...space art works and images have continued to have a powerful effect upon me; they make me dream and mov

Week 7: Neuroscience and Art  As an Anthropology Major neuroscience is something that we do not study in my field. However, we do somewhat study art and the different forms of it in each culture. In addition, we also learn to understand why a person thinks the way they dory studying their culture, their economic status and their environment. Like anthropologist who studies an an individuals background; neuroscience can help us understand why a person interprets something different from others. By studying their brain scans neuroscientists can somewhat get an understanding of what is going on. In addition, Neuroscience can also can also be interpreted as a form of art. For example, Giovanni Frazzetto and Suszanne Anker writer of "Nueroculture" states that "artist Jonathan Keats put his Brain, as well as its original thoughts, up for sale...he registered his brain as a sculpture created by himself through the act of thinking...produced an exhibition and catalogue at the

Week 6: Biotechnology and Art To begin, biotechnology refers to " is technology based on biology- biotechnology harnesses cellular bimolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and health of of our planet"(bio.org). Therefore, it is for the good of the human race.  I somewhat disagree with this statement because when I think of biotechnology I think of chemically treated foods. Such as chickens, apples, and vegetables. That are huge but grown in an unhealthy way. Although, I disagree with the so called benefits of biotechnology in our food. I do not disregard that biotechnology and Art can interact. For example, Professor. Vesna mentioned that George Gessert started to breed plants. Hence, he showed us how biotechnology and art can intertwine. Like professor Vesna I can appreciate the art in this type of biotechnology because it does not directly affect what I put in my body.  Yet another form of bio technology where I can se
