Week 8: Nanotechnology +Art

To be honest I found this week’s lecture very hard to follow. I believe that this is because I have been used to stuff that are non-related to science. Such as learning about different cultures, and readings books.  To begin, Nanotechnology is a branch of technology that deals with dimensions and tolerances of less than 100 nanometers especially the manipulation of individuals atoms and molecules(www.nanotech.org). While watching the Ted Talk about “DNA Folding, in detail” I learned that DNA can be manipulated into any shape. I was shocked by this because I did not expect that DNA can be shaped into a “happy  face”. In the past I have learned that DNA can be altered or mutated. However, I never imagined that it can be folded into an everyday shape.

It took me some time to see how DNA can be seen as Art. However, after thinking about it in more depth I realize that because DNA can be folded. It can become an Origami

This topic relates back to the first lectures we had with professor Vesna. Specifically  about the two cultures. Nanotechnology is the paradigm shift, it is  a new science, is the reinvented science.

In conclusion, it surprises me that how the two cultures lectures relates so closely with the Nanotechnology and Art one.
