Extra Credit Event 1:




At first when I attended this event I was somewhat with a disinterested. However, after the first speaker of disembodied art I was soon sucked into the event. Especially when the speaker spoke about how he himself feels disembodied . Not knowing where he is located. He then goes ahead and talks about cultural condition and not conveying emotion. This specific point reminded me of my field work in Mexico. During my field work I was to show no emotion to the stories I was being told by the community because my emotions would get in the way of my work. One of the work of art that was shown  was of picasso, specially the one that showed a mother losing her child. Here the artist distorts the image in order to show sorrows. This picture in particular make me think that for my final essay I want to talk about how people  deal with unfortunate events and how they overcome certain events in their lives. Perhaps go back to robotics and art, and research if their has been robots that have helped individuals with grief or with disability.

Week 2: Math, Nature, and Art       As a child I always wanted to be a Math teacher. Coincidently, I was a horrible art student that would rather be doing word problems than drawing . My calculus teacher would always tell me “Math is everywhere! You literally are doing math and don’t even know it”(Martha Mata 2012).  However, as young child I remember the countless hours I would spent drawing and coloring. It is only with Richard Buckminster’ concept of de-genuises that I understood what happened to that young child that loved drawing. Space +Art      By far this week' discussion was my favorite one. As a child I was always fascinated by space and always wondered where everything came from. How the universe could influence humanity, and how everything came to be. I was surprise to find out by how NASA came to be established.  According to professor Vesna, NASA was established to compete with the Soviet Union and their Sputnik Movement(Space and Art Lecture Part 2). Soviet Union Sputnik NASA Flopnik' failure.     Although, I find that the background history of how NASA to be interesting, something that caught my attention even more was the  statement of Annick Buread,  an art educator, curator and publisher. Week 6: Biotechnology and Art To begin, biotechnology refers to " is technology based on biology- biotechnology harnesses cellular bimolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and health of of our planet"(bio.org). Therefore, it is for the good of the human race.  I somewhat disagree with this statement because when I think of biotechnology I think of chemically treated foods. Such as chickens, apples, and vegetables. That are huge but grown in an unhealthy way. Although, I disagree with the so called benefits of biotechnology in our food. I do not disregard that biotechnology and Art can interact. For example, Professor. Vesna mentioned that George Gessert started to breed plants. Hence, he showed us how biotechnology and art can intertwine.
